I would like to thank you for your interest in my blog. Guests both old and new are always welcome around the Gathering Fire, and I hope you return to share in the journey. First and foremost, I am a Christian, saved by the grace of God, and pray that all of my endeavors here (and in all other areas of my life) will bring glory and honor to Him. The main purpose of this blog is to share my various stories, poems and thoughts with all who would read them, and I hope they might bring joy, encouragement, laughter and comfort.
Since the time I was first able to read on my own as a small child, I have been addicted to the written word. Stories have captured my imagination, touched my heart and inspired my own creativity. As far back as I can remember, I was always making up stories in my head to entertain myself. Most never left my head, but that mattered little to me at the time. I was content in my own little world.
Not to be ignored or lessened in importance is my second passion: Music. While I have been making up stories since the time I was able to form coherent sentences, I came out of the womb singing (not literally, of course). It is true that there are often stories going on inside at least half my head–but in the other half there is always a song playing. I began piano lessons around age six, and took up violin in high school. And now, with my degree in Music, I teach private piano lessons and play first violin in my community orchestra.
It was during my college years that I first began to delve into writing simply for the love of it. At first, I wrote songs. And as I slowly came out of my shell and started to play them for someone other than myself, I found a love of sharing things with others that I never knew I had. Finally, around the beginning of my junior year, a sudden idea for a story bloomed inside my thoughts. For reasons that are to this day inexplicable to me, I felt the overwhelming urge to get up in the middle of the night and write the idea down. I have continued to write since that moment, which has led to here, the next step in my writing journey. My main influences are the Bible and J. R. R. Tolkien. It should come as no surprise then that I write mostly fantasy, sprinkled here and there with the occasional poem. And, of course, I continue to write music as well. Hence, it seemed only fitting that this blog reflect my inward being: the union of story and song.
