Once again, author Bethany Jennings has put together a super fun Q&A prompt over on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag WIPjoy. The idea is for writers to share info about their latest work-in-progress (a.k.a. “WIP”). Each day for the entire month there is a new prompt for us to answer, in which we share descriptions, information or even occasionally excerpts of stories. It’s a great way to gain new followers and potential readers, and it’s a great source of encouragement and community amongst writers. Plus, it’s a fun way to let others share in your excitement and passion and, yes…joy! 🙂
So, I figured I might as well as share my answers here again, as I did with the January WIPjoy. I’m trying to share different things this time so there’s not too much repetition/overlap. Keeps me on my toes!
Anyway, here’s the first week’s glance into my WIP! I hope you enjoy it!
- Tell us about your WIP!
The Hall of Memories is book 1 of what will be a high fantasy series called The Armor of Edir Chronicles. It follows the quest of a young hero, Eruvred, to recover the lost Armor of Edir (which legend claims possesses magical powers) in hopes of conquering Belagoth, a powerful tyrant set on the domination and enslavement of every kingdom in Ineris.
2. Introduce your protagonist’s awesomeness!
Eruvred is a young man who’s seen his share of tragedy. But his past has equipped him with a deep compassion for the sufferings of others. He is often torn between wanting to help everyone and realizing his own inadequacy. Despite the weight of the world that he carries, he has a great sense of humor, loyalty, humility and kindness. He’s also extremely curious–which tends to get him into trouble a lot. 😉
3. Share a line about your WIP’s atmosphere.
Ten years had come and gone since he first arrived in Gilafar, and still the gentle, mild springtime of the north country thrilled him. It came like a whisper, softly breathing life back into the land after a long, cold sleep. Plants stretched their stiff, bare limbs and prepared to clothe themselves in in new colors. Animals peeked out of their hiding places, wary and curious, ready to explore. Gradually the scents and sounds of a world reborn crept back into the land, shaking off the snow and chill.
4. Share a line about one of your WIP’s main emotions.
The misery of those first few months were etched into his memory, seared with the fiery brand of loss.
Because memories, both the bitter and the sweet, are an important part of the story and its world–hence the book’s title. 😉
