Student Quote of the Week: The Birds and the Bees

Student: “Do you have any children?”

Me: “No, not yet.”

Student: “Are you married?”

Me: “Yes I am.”

Student (after a few seconds of silent pondering): “How old do you have to be to start having babies?”

Me (mentally sweating bullets): “Umm…well, it’s different for everyone. Not everybody has babies at the same age.”

Student (with a look of sudden horror): “I don’t want to have babies right now!! I think it will hurt a lot!”

Me (with a nervous laugh): “It’s okay! You don’t have to worry about having babies for a long time, not until you’re grown up and married too.”

Student (sighing with relief): “Good!”

This conversation certainly falls under the category of “Subjects I Never Expect to Come Up During Piano Lessons.” Needless to say, it turned awkward very quickly.

  1. That is hilarious. I will have to say I don’t think it would be quite as awkward as the opposite scenario. My sister was asked if she was pregnant. My sister said no and that she wasn’t married. The child went on to say “Well, so and so had a baby when she wasn’t married.” Uh… That is a hard one to get out of. 😆
